Potentially returning to the game

Postby Tayne » Fri Oct 28, 2016 5:32 am

Hey all. As the subject line says, I'm thinking about returning to the game and have a few armies I'm looking between to start. I'm here to ask what armies, if any, are known to be weak in their current editions (I got back into warhammer by picking Tomb Kings for eigth edition.. yeah). Thanks

The weakest armies at the moment are (in no particular order)

Orks
Tyranids
Chaos Space Marines
Dark Eldar
Imperial Guard (Astra Militarium or some such nonsense as they are now called)

The game has changed considerably in 7th edition though. Single Codex armies are rare, it's all about allies and detachments.
Because of this most Codexes can be used, for example Dark Eldar work well with their Eldar cousins and Tyranids can now ally with Genestealer Cults.

Because of this, I'd recommend any Imperial faction (Marines, Mechanicus etc.) as they're all best mates nowadays and they offer the widest choice of options. Of course, if all you want is to do is win, then take Eldar or Tau.....or both together ;-)

If you want a cheap army I still have these Dark Angles for sale.

Though with the coming of the new Edition the following Armies will be getting a boost.

Orks - Burner Boys will be very nasty due to the new rules for Flamers
Imperial Guard - Standard Weapons are looking to have no save modifiers so they will live longer and also can field lots of Flamers
Tyranids - they will have high movement maybe in the 8-10 inch range and maybe even 12 inches since they will be faster than Space Marines who will still have a 6 inch movement

Also since most weapons will not have save Modifiers Dark Eldar along with Eldar Guardians will benefit from this since they will get a save against these weapons and not be kill outright.

Unsure what this Edition will do for Chaos Marines but I would expect that they would be getting some boost and you just might see more than just Nurgle on the tabletop.
