Fow V.4 the Soviet Solution

Postby Doktor Helge » Thu Aug 10, 2017 11:42 am

Hi
It seems to me that people feel that especially the Soviet army is unbalanced.
This is especially due to when a unit breaks (lose a morale test and leave the battlefield)
For a Tank unit, as long as you have Atleast 2 tanks (not bailed) in Command, your unit is in good spirits and fo not need to Roll a break test.
So if you field a light tankovy Company with 16 T-26 tanks, it would Seem that you have to kill or bail 15 !! Vehicles before the unit needs to make a morale test.
This is gonna be a [bip] Of a monster to handle..

But the tankovy Company only works as a joint unit because Of the centralized Command Rule.. and This Rule is out with V.4
So you Will instead face a force og
6 T-26 tanks
5 T-26 tanks
5 T-26 tanks
This is far more managable.

Now we do not know how battlefront Will word their solution to the tank horde problem, but This seems a workable solution which would fit the V.4 rules and would make Huge tankovy og Strelkovy hordes a managable thing.

I am Aware that you might be able to find contradictions in some rules og formations, But I belive This Will solve a lot Of problems, and in my perspective it IS the in the V.4 rules

That's an interesting idea, Helge. There will be a lot of similar tweaks that we might consider to all sorts of aspects of v4. I think the best way to deal with them all will be as a package and that it should be done later in the year when we have all had more experience.

Also don't forget that once you kill 8 tanks the command distance shrinks to 6" as only units of over 8 have an 8" command distance from the commander. We have to see how this plays out in a few battles.

Command distance does not mean that much in V.4 you can still act freely outside Command distance, with a modifier to hit, (if you move)... and no ability to assult.
But it not a Huge disadvantage

But if you do play with potential tank horde 10+ tanks, you propably wouldn't brother much about Beeing reduced to Command distance 6"

It matters when you consider good spirits - only those in command count.

Is a 16 strong T-26 unit a real problem? Having played Light Tankovy in EW, I haven't encountered too many armies that couldn't turn my T-26's to scrap metal in short order  . A 16 strong unit might last a while, but it takes up about half your points. You could two units of 8 and a Shturmovik for less points.

There are changes in hand for soviets. I believe they will be posted soon.
