Crew list advice for a newbie, please.

Hay,

I'm playing my first 50 ss game next week, after 3 demo games at about 20 ss.
Using what I have, I have built a list but have no idea if it's any use at all.
I would really appreciate any advice.

Models I own:
Ramos
2 swarms and a load of individual spiders.
Joss
Large arachnid
Brass arachnid
Electrical creation
1 December Acolyte
Howard Langston
(not much, I know)

Here's what I have come up with:
Arcanists Crew - 50 - Scrap

Ramos -- 3 Pool
+Electric Summoning [1]

Brass Arachnid [4]
December Acolyte [7]
Howard Langston [12]
+Bleeding Edge Tech [1]
Joss [10]
+Open Current [1]
Large Arachnid [6]
Steam Arachnid Swarm [8]

I could drop the swarm for a load of upgrades or 2 steam arachnids but in terms of models , I'm very limited.

Input welcome, just don't tell me I'm doomed!

Something to bear in mind coming from another game like WFB or 40K, is that in Malifaux you decide the mission (Strategy and Schemes) then pick your crew, rather than the other way around. So whilst having an idea about what you want to take might be useful, there is no set crew that you should use for all Schemes.

That being said, with a limited choice in models it might be an idea to have at least 30-35 SS worth of models picked beforehand, especially if you're new to the game. Then, depending on the Schemes, you can change the last few to fit.

For example, in Reckoning you might not want to have a load of small spiders, as they will be a liability. Similar if Make Them Suffer is in the scheme pool. However, in the table quarters Strat (I forget the name, I'm fairly new to the game myself!) then lots of spiders are a great way to go.

I would say that you can't go far wrong including Joss, the Acolyte and possibly Howard in any crew, as they are all good models you will want to learn how to use well. i would also use the Brass Arachnid (that's Ramos' totem, right?) so you can get an idea of what it does. Then decide on the rest on the day!

Hope that helps, for more (and better!) advice I would head over to the Wyrd forums themselves. There's a pretty active Malifaux community over there and they should be able to help more than I can. Good luck! :D

Thanks for your time and thoughts.
I am dabbling with Malifaux after a decade of only playing Warmachine/Hordes.
I had no idea it would be this complicated. perhaps starting just as 2e was on the horizon was an error. Perhaps I should get a rule book!
