Iyanden Eldar Blog Thingy

Postby UberTek » Fri Sep 11, 2009 12:47 pm

Hello Chaps,

Part of a new, 3rd Eldar army.

Most of the figures for the new army have been scavenged for from ebay. The Wraithlord is one of a couple I picked up as a "badly painted lot" and stripped with simple green. I then went to work chopping it up to get a dynamic running pose.

I wanted to paint this new lot of eldar as Iyanden as I've always felt not enough focus was paid to the the symbol of Iyanden, the Shrine of Asuryan, and Asuryans symbol of fire.

So fire it is, but blue and black flames to compliment the yellow "uniform" of the craftworld.

Anyway enough waffle here are some pictures, and a few more of the expanding army. Apologies for some of the finger prints on the bases as I game with these.

Really really nice! Amazing NMM, blending and freehand, and the conversions look very dynamic as well. The only bit that I feel isnt quite up to the exceptionally high standard of the rest is the blending of the blue flames on the black cloak... (third guy down...)

Other than that, fantastic :)

I like, though the 3rd guy down (2nd Warlock) reminds me of old school Bad Moon Orks, just what sprung to mind.

They're a bit tasty. I've often thought of using WM style bases for 40k, it certainly works. Are you just using them on characters/big stuff?

The Wraihlord and Wraithgaurd heads really make the army special.

These are incredible. I'd love to paint my Eldar army up like that, but I wouldn't know where to begin! How did you do the yellow? The bone colour of the Wraithlord is also incredible. Tutorials? :p

That the plan fella. ;) Working on a couple of wave serpents that will have a similar treatment. Loved the battle worn eldar you did Jonathan.

Thanks Gary, hey I might pop in and see you guys at the end of October if I get a chance (read as "stay sober enough") and can convince my lift to take a detour. I'm doing the WHW Historical Weekend.

Thanks James! I've got another 15 wraith guard to paint and weathering to do yet with a red planet feel.. maybe some display bases too ;)

Any way here are some more I've finished. Some guardians, not too many of these and not as fancy, and some Dire Avengers.

White undercoat, wash (20/30/50 paint/matte medium/water) with VMC* Flat yellow. Twice.
Wash with Gryphone Sepia. Highlight up with VMC Flat yellow and add stages of white.

Some shading with Iyanden Dark sun and snake bite leather..

*VMC = Vallejo Model Colour

Bone is painted with Foundry Bone Triad and Gryphone Sepia wash and white.

Probably going to re-base everything on the WM type bases. Infantry look better on 30mm bases anyway IMHO. Game wise not much different and I don't go to GW events any more. ;)

Very nice indeed, I particularly like the dire avenger squad. Nice idea having them stand out with their scheme while keeping them in a similar palette to the flames you have painted elsewhere.

A visually stunning army with some great freehand and solid colour choices.

My only criticism is the grey/blacxk highlighting on the warlock seems a little rough compared to other models, maybe go back and touch up a little.

Throw this on a display base and get ready to win a lot of best painted awards though =D>

Went back over a few models after some feedback, its amazing how much you notice when the images blow up to 4 times the size of the model. :)

Stunning little unit you have there.
The "movement tray" really works well to show them off.

How are you finding gaming with the wraithguard as troops? Aren't they just the awesomesauce? :D

Looking great! What is your recipe for the basing, it looks just like an effect I have been trying to produce with little success.
