At a big'ol $22US for 5 models I'm looking for a plastic GW alternate for Pink Horrors.. thoughts?

Only one I've heard of is maybe Tyranid Spore Mines :|

Either those or plastic ghouls with a bit of shaving and leave off the heads. Cyel has a DL blog with them in. Of course the search is screwy but someone will have a link sooner or later........

A friend of mine uses the spore mines, and they dont look that bad. That being said, almost anything can be horrors.

Ive seen ghouls with heads, ghouls without heads, night goblins with their arms and heads removed (empty robes), a mix of normal models with greenstuff tentacles and stuff bursting out of them, etc, etc.

I've seen Dryads used too.

I entertained an identical question about a week ago...

decided to go with ghouls (should get here in a few days)...I plan to use the legs/body (not the head) in most cases with between 1 and 3 arms coming out from different angles

depending how it looks when I get them in front of me I am a little hopeful that I may even be able to turn the box of 10 into more (maybe 13-14 horrors, with some being legs and arms basically, others being torsos and arms without legs...it may not look convincing though, haven't tried it yet)

on a similar topic, i have a plan to turn ghouls into furies (again, don't want to spend $16.50 or whatever it is for 2 metal models...in this case i am ripping off the idea from this thread: http://warhammer.org.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=63093 - I like his ghoul furies)

i don't know if u plan to include flesh hounds in your army, but based on your feelings about horrors (I assume you are well aware of this) you will almost certainly want to buy the Chaos War Hounds from WoC, giving you 10 plastic models for $20ish, as opposed to 5 metal models for $40ish

I also wanted cheaper/plastic fiends, and will probably try to copy Hexantanz's spidernettes (tho almost certainly less successfully)

also have been turning over a thought for Seekers of slaanesh to be another daemonette centaur using the elven steeds as lower half...and probably adding spikes or tentacles to the steeds, maybe replacing the tails with a snake/whip/stinger/claw kinda thing

another idea I got from this forum (I think also from Hexantanz) is using the Chaos Spawn kit to make Daemon Princes - i may look into that especially cuz it will then give me tons of chaos spikes and tentacle bits to put on other stuff as well (like my theoretical seekers)

anyway, just sharing my thoughts as I imagine we are about to undertake similar projects...gl

actually, just looked at the Tyranid page on GW site...I really like the spore mines as horrors, and i may revise my strategy and turn the ghouls into furies and plaguebearers, and then use spore mines as horrors - 3 sets of mines will give 18 models for $34.50 ($1.92 each), as opposed to the ghouls which provide 20 models for $44 ($2.20 each)...there also won't be the conversion process (though I was thinking it would be kinda fun - I suppose you could always stick extra tentacles on the spores to make them not quite spores) i think I am convincing myself as I type... my ghouls may now be destined to serve nurgle

i guess the problem would come if i ever played against tyranids using the same models as spore mines lol (hopefully they will be different colors/bases i guess - food for thought anyway)

One word: Kroot.

I used Kroot plastics to make my horrors, you can see them here:

While I'm loath to inflict more horros on WHFB in the form of Horrors... I AM rather pleased with the outcome of my Horrornettes (Dryads+a few claws). From my "Slaaneshi" Deamon army project.

The possibilities with Converting models for Deamons are endless..

I have ghouls with GS one eye, horn from Beastmen, and skeleton swords as my Plaguebearers.
For Horrors I have made my own Spore like creatures.. but I also made the heards from skeelton bodies, ghoul head and arms, and lots of GS Fire inbetween.. I actually like them so much I am thinking of making a few units full of them in that style..
Seekers can be done with Cold ones with Deamonettes on the back if you are not looking for centaur like creatures..

So many options so little time/money to make them all..

Good luck mate..

the night goblins as magical Jawas are awesome! That is truly brilliant, will have to steal that concept one day.

Those would probably still look good with some arms on them as well, right? I’m still contemplating a dipped deamon army and I might just convert some NG spears into staffs and shave of their faces this way. Perhaps a greenstuffs flame in the other hand? I Think brown or black robes would do the thrick as wel myself, tough yellow would be a nice lovecraftian thing I supose.

I do like the goblin jawas, they look really cool but I don't think i like them as "horrors" - maybe spirit hosts with a more ghostly color scheme lol...

anyway, I have a plan for converted horrors that I will hopefully begin implementing by the end of the week (whenever the mail arrives) - I doubt its actually original, but I think it is going to look cool (always does in my head - now if only I could come up with some actual artistic ability by the end of the week)

@ snowblizz: what an amazingly good use of the extra dryad head parts as flames!

Thank you.
I am pretty pleased myself. They made a fairly good base to add some green stuff to as well. Helped immensely to get it right.
Since I didn't want to use them on the models anyway... I greenstuffed "tentacle dreadlocks" onto them instead.
If I make more I'll probably make the flames a bit better. Painting them was a b*** though. I had originally the idea of painting multicoloured flames. That idea was ruthlessly stabbed in the back and left to bleed in the gutter by the lazier part of my mind though. I don't know WHAT I was thinking, so much work, so very much work.
