IT’S HERE! The Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos Army Book

Below you will find the link to the new Indy GT Dwarfs of Chaos Army
Book, a complete, 92-page Army Book in the Games Workshop tradition.
The book—professionally written, designed, illustrated, and thoroughly
play tested—will be legal for use in participating Independent Grand
Tournaments. As of this writing, the Crossroads, Conflict, Colonial,
Destruction Derby, NEWCC, and War Camp GTs will allow the book as
legal, and we expect the number to grow with the publication of the
book.

About the authors
Written by Kevin Coleman. Kevin has been writing background and rules
for Warhammer for well over a decade with his work appearing in White
Dwarf Magazine, the Games Workshop Website and the Citadel Journal
including such articles as Gnoblars Hordes, the Dark Elf City Garrison
army list, Goblin Ecology, Mighty Champions and more. Kevin has also
worked as a games designer and writer for other games and magazines
including Fleer, Inc.’s customizable card game, Ophidian 2350.

Book design by award-winning graphic artist Matt Birdoff. Matt has
been a professional designer working in the entertainment industry for
over 15 years. His recent works include logos for DC Comics, sports
card designs for Topps, Inc., style guide design for Ringling Bros. &
Barnum and Bailey, The 39 Clues book and card series from Scholastic,
among others.

Additional background material and fiction by Justin Hill and Jarrett
Messing. Justin is the author of the Black Library novel Forged in
Battle (as Justin Hunter). His internationally acclaimed first novel,
The Drink and Dream Teahouse, won the 2003 Geoffrey Faber Memorial
Prize and a 2002 Betty Trask Award, and was banned by the government
in China. It was picked by the Washington Post as one of the Top
Novels of 2001. His second novel, Passing Under Heaven, won the 2005
Somerset Maugham Award and was shortlisted for the Encore Award.

Note that this book is not endorsed in any way by Games Workshop.

Even though I'm not a fan of either chaos dwarves nor "unofficial" lists, I must say that I really respect the amount of work you people have put into this, an awesome effort.

Good job!

Ill have to give this a look over. Chaos dwarfs have always amused me. The mix of slow elites and goblin fodder makes for some interesting armies. I have a lot of respect for someone who takes the time and effort to write an army book and play test it.

I'll just start with a few niggles:

Spelling - A few errors jumped off the page at me (e.g. "bred" instead of "breed" in Black Orcs, "Chieftan" instead of "Chieftain" in the painting section) that seemed pretty obvious.

Annihilators - The rules don't actually say what happens at less than 5 models.

Birdoff's intro - Don't get me wrong, I can see a huge amount of effort has gone into this, but that just takes some of the shine off it.

But overall, it's an excellent product. The level of detail is consistently high, the depth of background is great and applied to the subject very well. The rules are solid and give a good variety of unit choices that say "faithful" to the previous work while adding an original spin on their rules.

You mean Matt's FOREWARD[sic]? :P

The overall level of spelling and grammar isn't amazing; there's at least one dodgy sentence on every page (and I haven't even read the background sections yet).

The rules do seem pretty tight though - on my initial read through I only caught one or two things that aren't covered well (compared to 30+ on my initial read through of the WoC book), and I can't remember off the top of my head what they were, so they can't have been too bad.

A great effort, but could use a little more polish. Show them how it's done :)

Very very blitz!
For me exquisite timing (see Glass Cabinet) as this little gem will give me even more background character and context for my budding O&G army.

Well done, great effort!

I find it hard to belive that thats not a GW Produced Book, then I realised it was actually fairly balanced, so much work has clearly gone into it that you should all be really chuffed, know I would be :)

Wow, that's incredible. An amazing project.

There's only one problem. I now want another army.

If you're willing to put out edition 1.1, I'm sure you could convince someone with skills to copy edit for you. Right now, it's pretty bad - like Grotsnot said, something elementary jumps out at you on every page.

For example:

Image

A lot of work obviously went into this thing. A little more won't kill you guys.

The actual rules look all right. I know that if I was putting together an army list from this book, I would start with four huge units of Sneaky Gits and work from there. :)

I dont know, to me the bad spelling just makes it seem more authentic (come on how poor havent the spelling been in the last few GW books?).

Great job i would say.

I don't need to pay any money for this, so I'll take the spelling for granted.

Am looking forward to reading this book, awesome job guys, congrats!

Glad I'm not the only one who thought four units of snaky gits after my first glance at the list. Actually it was how many hobgoblins can I fit into a list (including lots of sneaky gits).

Also for the rabble does the taskmaster have to be at the front and get treated like a champion or can he hide int he ranks like a skaven packmaster?

(only rule query I have so far which is pretty good)

A unit with no upper limit, ranks, and Scout?

Why -wouldn't- you take four units of them? :D

Hi all, wow! thanks for the great response!

re: spelling and grammar
yeah, there are some warts in there. The book was edited / proofed by a few people, but obviously things slip through. Much of the flavor text was delivered right at the deadline, which, this being a non-profit fan project, you really cannot complain about as a project manager. The book is out at this point, and it is what it is. We don't want multiple versions floating around. If GW IP office asks us to go back and change anything, that is the time we'd have a more thorough proofreading done.

re: my Foreward
I had a full forward written up about the differences between what we were doing and other fan made lists out there. Then I realized that there is no difference. Ours may be fuller, prettier, and playtested, but putting together a fan army book is an incredible amount of work for anybody to do, and shows a real dedication to the hobby. I did not want to put us above anybody else's efforts on their own fan-made lists; they should all be acknowledged as a great part of this hobby.

re: Chaos Dwarfs Online
While many at that site contributed artwork and miniatures, please note that this book is not an official CDO book.

re: Sneaky Gitz
Glad to see you guys think they are great! Every playtester relegated them to the crap pile, and none thought they were worth taking, as they are. Curious to see how the different builds pan out.

First up I love this book. Heres my first army list using it.

2249 points of hobgoblin death
Hobgoblin chieftain, daemon eyes, warg, light armour, shield, poisoned blades, amulet of hashut, gauntlets of bazhrack the cruel, pendant of uzkulak 222
Hobgoblin overseer, daemon eyes, warg, bow, light armour, shield, blades of backstabbing 126
Hobgoblin overseer, daemon eyes, light armour, shield, additional poisoned hand weapon, hailfire gun, warg 113
Hobgoblin overseer, BSB, daemon eyes, warg, light armour, shield, additional poisoned hand weapon, standard of slavery 163
10 hobgoblin stikkas 50
10 hobgoblin stikkas 50
10 hobgoblin stikkas 50
10 hobgoblin stikkas 50
14 hobgoblin stikkas 70
21 rabble, taskmaster 52
21 rabble, taskmaster 52
21 rabble, taskmaster 52
21 rabble, taskmaster 52
5 hobgoblin wolf riders, spear, bow, light armour 76
5 hobgoblin wolf riders, spear, bow, light armour 76
5 hobgoblin wolf riders, spear, bow, light armour 76
5 hobgoblin wolf riders, spear, bow, light armour 76
21 sneaky gits, musician 131
21 sneaky gits, musician 131
21 sneaky gits, musician 131
2 hobgoblin spear chukkas 70
21 hobgoblins, musician 88
10 hobgoblin wolf riders, light armour, shield, spear, musician 146
10 hobgoblin wolf riders, light armour, shield, spear, musician 146

271 hobgoblins. Chain panic will kill it but at least there is a lot of targets. Also the general is pretty tooled up (frenzied in a frenzied unit, 5 attacks at S5 with poison, 5+ ward save, 3 S4 attacks from his mount and 1 re-roll) well at least for a goblin  Looks like fun to me.

Interesting when a CD book is published all anyone can talk about is hobgoblins. I gotta go read it.

Partly the High Priest fluff, partly to increase the importance of the Daemonsmiths, who are basically level 2 fighty wizards, with bound spells and dispel dice. There was also a desire for the magic phase to be a little different than other armies'.

A Daemonsmith is basically a L1 wizard.

EDIT: Matt beat me to it. :)

Congratulations on your efforts.. I hope they are well received. While CD are not my thing, the book at least seems to have been well thought out, and I would welcome playing against armies from it. I find a couple of the magic items to be worded oddly, but this is no different than any other army book. In particular, I think the Phantom Blade was a little confusing, and may lead to over or under application of the penalties.

It also seems to be missing the very important line, "A model whose Toughness characteristic reduced to 0 est mort."
