Added you John. I'm pondering if Molik needs his own ticket, You know he plays the game for you and you just watch him win it.

Mitch, I'm not sure if you're just interested or want to sign up. If it's the later I need your name.

Added you Andy.

It's for charity! You're doing a service for those less fortunate than yourself! Clearly if she won't let you go she hates charity and is an evil person!

Added everyone who posted so far. Rules pack should be up tomorrow.

Ah, you've meet my wife then.

I am working on it as it is easier for me to do one dayers than a whole weekend and it is close to my birthday so if I must, I will pull the birthday card!

Heres the rulespack guys, life got in the way of getting it posted yesterday. I'll put up a downloadable version later.

"Welcome to the Northampton Nexus rules pack.

Event details.

35 Points list.
2 Lists.
10 minute timed turns.
Steamroller 2010.v2 Scenarios.

Sunday 26th September 2010.
Registration opens at 10:30am, Games start at 11am.

Lists must been submitted by the 16th of September. Submissions should be e-mailed to northamptonshirewargamers@gmail.com . If you have any special dietary requirements please include these in the list submission e-mail.

Event location.
1 LADYS LANE
NORTHAMPTON
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
NN1 3AH

Event timetable.

Round 1 - 11:00-12:30
Round 2 – 12:45-2:15
Lunch – 2:15-3:00
Round 3 – 3:00-4:30
Round 4 – 4:45-6:30

Victory points system.

In case of drawn positions the following VP system will be used. After each game the players will need to add up the loses on each side. These are purely for tie breakers and won't be used in any other fashion. A unit must be completely destroyed/removed from play to count for VPs.

Warcasters/Warlocks = Warjack/Warbeast points and the PC of all Warjacks and beasts in the battlegroup.
Warbeasts/Warjacks = PC
Infantry = 50% of their PC rounded up to the nearest whole number.
Solos = 50% of their PC rounded up to the nearest whole number.

Spirit of the event.

The event is designed as a way to meet people from other communities, play some fun games of Warmachine against strangers and raise some money for a good charity. While nothing is banned or forbidden, it's encouraged that lists are not ultra competitive auto win E Denny style lists. Play what you find fun and think will make for the best games for both you and your opponents.

Since the event is hosted in a venue with alcohol being served people are asked to drink in a responsible fashion.

Prizes
There will be the follow prizes.

1st Place
2nd Place
3rd Place
Best painted
Best Sportsman.

Best painted will be judged by the event team in the lunch break, so please leave your armies on display on the table at the end of Round 2.

Best Sportsman will be voted for after the final game. You may vote for 1 person who you thought was the best Sportsman you played on the day.

Timing out
Once a players time has run out he must immediately stop what he is doing and resolve any effects which must resolve on his turn (removing revived models from the table for example). Any models in mid attack do not finish their attack and do not resolve any triggers they have the option to use, only triggers that must be resolved resolved.

Tokens, Cards and Books

All players must have suitable tokens, a measuring device and dice. PDF printouts will not be allowed and MKII cards will need to be present for every model you have in both lists. If you wish to use a tier list you must have a copy of the Forces of Warmachine book with you, any tier bonuses will be forfeit if you cannot provide the Forces of Warmachine faction book you are using."

Questions :-

1. So if I kill my opponents Caster I get thier WB/WJ Points, plus all their battle group?

e.g. Morghoul +7 WBP , 11 Molik, 8 TG, 10 BB = 36pts?

Wow that seems way too good, as you are getting double bubble on the WB/WJ Points ...

The reason the VP's for battle groups on a caster kill was removed in mk2 was to give people more reasons to take large battle groups - this system seems to really punish you for taking large battle groups.

2. Whats the reason behind units/solo's only giving 1/2 VP's?

Again this seems to play into the fact you want small battle groups and lots of units ... thus you give very little points away.

However ... assuming you don't break the 16 player mark it won't make a blind bit of difference as long as one guy wins all 4 rounds, however once over 16 you need the VP's to win.

Therefore you could go 4-0 and still lose because you couldn't get VP's off your opponent, because they took a list to denny you points.

Assuming I'm right about how the points are worked out, it will be intresting to see it in action.

The warjack points may need adjusting, but it's pretty much to allow assassination to be a reasonable option. Plus these numbers only matter in tie breakers and won't be publically revealed any how.

Plus it does say "fun lists", and your opponents VPs don't matter to you, so unless you're being a git and metagaming the scores for a mate, it shouldn't matter. The idea was not to punish any list for being played, but if your opponent brings a million infantry spam, you're not getting a huge advantage over someone playing a beast heavy list.

The solos is to reduce vp sniping a little.

Yes. Unless it's Molik and then he must be painted in baby pink and yellow pokadots with chrome swords showing he's at the seaside building a sandcastle.

The other thing about Warjack/beast points is that there are less of them the better a caster is.

I'll be bringing my Mercs, not sure who my second caster will be. Depends how much money I want to spend and how much stuff I want to paint.

Hi, just to add a couple of further comments/thoughts on the VP system. I understand that this is a fun event, but hopefully these comments are still valid in the context of a level playing field -

Quote:
Warcasters/Warlocks = Warjack/Warbeast points and the PC of all Warjacks and beasts in the battlegroup.
Warbeasts/Warjacks = PC

Shouldnt the VPs for killing the caster be equal to what you've not killed to date? You'll already have the points for those beasts/jacks you've already killed, and you're also already counting the points for those jacks/beasts which the caster's Jack/beast points have been spent on. Otherwise, as Scalpel says, you're getting a decent double dip.

Dont quite get the 50% limit on units and solos - if I kill an opponent's 8point jack/beast, i get 8 points. If i kill an 8 point unit (assuming this requires broadly the same level of resource as a jack/beast (?)), i only get 4 points. I know what I'll be hunting down......

I guess what I'm saying is that shouldnt my opponent rack up VPs broadly equal to the %age of what they've killed (plus jacks/beasts left "uncontrolled" as a result of caster kill)?

You don't get double points for 'jacks and beasts'. You just get the points for all dead ana live Jacks and beasts in the battlegroup.

The 50% limit is to balance attrition type of lists from dominating the VPs, assassination lists will only get the VPs for jacks and such, where as attrition lists will get far more points, the reduction is to stop sniping and making assassination a weaker form of playing.

As John said, it's very unlikely to really matter and if anything it discourages those lists that shut your opponent out of the game so you only 1 unit to take the scenario and auto win.

If enough people dislike it, it can be changed, but it's just a simple system that is patching a hole in the system we have the resources to run.

Sorry, what I'm getting at here is that PP uses WJ points as a means of balancing different 'casters in spite of them all costing '0' points. i.e. pDenny gets +5 points, put pGaspy gets +6 so pDenny is 1 point 'better' than pGaspy. The VPs for this event reward killing the 'easier' target more than the harder one (just think how the Old Witch would score). At least that's how I read the tie break at the moment.

As for my lists, I will have two, they just might look rather similar, unless I get some more stuff. I'm expecting to finish quite low too. All in all I'm looking forward to this.
