[Captains] [T9A] Vote for scenarios and deployment - Results

Postby Chris Legg » Thu Feb 08, 2018 9:58 am

In accordance with Captains wishes we now present the opportunity to vote for their preferred method of how to choose the Scenario and Deployment type at this years event.

The votes will be on the basis of a Condorcet based system, where each area is ranked in order of preference (1-5 for Scenario, 1-3 for Deployment).

Scenarios
This is the vote to determine the method of scenario choice at the T9A event in Zagreb 2018.

Eligible captains should list their vote in the order most preferable to them, for example E-B-C-D-A, from the following options:

Option A
The scenario is rolled each round, after match ups have been completed. This will be on an individual level and take place immediately before the game begins, as detailed in the T9A rulebook.

Option B
The scenario is rolled on an individual game basis as in Option A, however in this option each player may veto one specific scenario, with the 4 (or 5) remaining options randomly selected. The method of veto would be secret, with each player writing a relevant number on a piece of paper with these revealed simultaneously.

Option C
One scenario is assigned to each round. Every team and every player on these teams play this scenario for the round. Scenarios are assigned at the start of day 1 of the tournament by the tournament organisers.

Option D
The scenario is chosen as part of the overall pairings process, in a manner similar to the ETC in 2017. This in essence would mean that the first two pairings would be scenario A, second two pairings scenario B, and rotating as relevant each round.

Option E
The scenario to be played is part of the general pairings process and a second deck of cards would be provided for the players. This is described in more detail:

Both teams receive a set of pairing cards, with each scenario on, and use these for:

A) The active team places a scenario when placing down an army (Eg, in matchup 1, Team X places down Beast Herds with the mission Breakthrough, and Team Y put down Dwarven Holds with Hold the Centre)
B) The reactive team offers 2 objective cards when reacting with their 2 armies, the active team then choose 1 army, as usual, but also the scenario from the two proposed.

Deployment
This is the vote to determine the method of deployment type at the T9A event in Zagreb 2018.

Eligible captains should list their vote in the order most preferable to them, for example E-B-C, from the following options:

Option A
The deployment type is rolled each round, after match ups have been completed. This will be on an individual level and take place immediately before the game begins, as detailed in the T9A rulebook.

Option B
The deployment type is fixed by table number. This would mean that all table 1 would be map 1, table 2 map 2 etc, repeated for the first 6 tables, with tables 7 & 8 using Frontline Clash.

Option C
The deployment map is fixed per round. This would mean that all 8 tables per row would use the same deployment type, and are assigned at the start of day 1 of the tournament by the tournament organisers.

HOW TO VOTE
The vote will run to midnight CET on Thursday 22nd February 2018, and will be via Blind PM to myself. Votes placed in this thread will be deleted, as will those submitted by any other form.

Eligible captains should send a message with the following-

1. Please list your choice for the method of Scenario, Ranked 1st to 5th in order of your preference, using the options A-E listed above.
2. Please list your choice for the method of Deployment, Ranked 1st to 3rd in order of your preference, using the options A-C listed above.

In each case you should list the Letter only, seperated by commas eg A,C,E,D,B

So with the votes counted and with the aid of the other chairmen, we are able to announce that at this years ETC for Ninth Age the captains have chosen option C for Scenario choice and option B for deployment:

Option C
One scenario is assigned to each round. Every team and every player on these teams play this scenario for the round. Scenarios are assigned at the start of day 1 of the tournament by the tournament organisers.

Option B
The deployment type is fixed by table number. This would mean that all table 1 would be map 1, table 2 map 2 etc, repeated for the first 6 tables, with tables 7 & 8 using Frontline Clash.

Sorry but I'm really not used to this system. Why is it C and not D (just for my personnal understanding ^^)?

10 teams /18 prefered C to D. Tight victory.
I am sad I missed the vote... just a question for option C:

One scenario is assigned to each round. Every team and every player on these teams play this scenario for the round. Scenarios are assigned at the start of day 1 of the tournament by the tournament organizers.

Is the order of objectives publicly available before day 1?
I guess the idea is that it is not available during army creation?

Is it going to be randomly selected and when and by who? (There is a lot to gain in knowing last objective)

Same for me Chris

Rank 1 : 5 pts
Rank 2 : 4 pts
Rank 3 : 3 pts
Rank 4 : 2 pts
Rank 5 : 1 pt

Total option D = 7*5 + 2*4 + 2*3 + 6*2 + 1*1 = 62 pts
Total option C = 5*5 + 4*4 + 3*3 + 2*2 + 4*1 = 58 pts

D is the winner....

I guess the results are tight enough that the voting system used (which is not clearly defined by the way) determines the winner.
Usually in Condorcet votes, the Schultz method is applied, but someone else could have something else in mind, like Pendi.

Basically option E is a clear loser and it can be discarded.
Option D beats A (12/18 prefer D to A) and B(11/18) but lose C (8/18), whereas C draws A(9/18) and B(9/18) and beats D(10/18).
Option B beats A (11/18) as well.

So something fairly easy is to determine that
D > B >A >E

But then C >D and C = B , C = A in pairwise comparisons, so C is more difficult to place in the picture. Either you put it at the start or 2nd position.
There is no option which is preferred to every other choice, and thus somehow the method you choose determines the result, i bet it was Schultz which was used.

Will tables then be randomized after pairing is finished or what is the plan for this?
