Army Builder v3 Files for WAB

Postby hands_miranda » Mon Aug 14, 2006 2:00 pm

Hi, I'm Raymond, and I do the Army Bulder v3 Files for Warhammer Ancients Battles.

Because of the huge issues I am having with getting the automatic update feature to work for Army Builder, I have to do manual advertisement of new files coming out. I've been doing this over on the WAB Yahoo groups, but I've notice there's not much cross-over with the British players over here. So I've decided to start posting links to the newer files over here, so that anybody interested here can use them.

Here's the link to the files: http://www.wabforum.sadwargamers.co.uk/ ... c.php?t=21

As of right now, all the main era books and lists are supported (WAB, AoA, Hannibal, Alexander, BTGG, El Cid, Shieldwall, Spartacus, Fall of the West, and Art of War) and Chivalry Era has partial support (~60% of AoC)

Known Issues

There are a couple of issues that I understand are out there. I'm doing my best to fix them (Hopefully at least one part of one of them will be reworked when I get home tonight)

    * Elephants and Chariots ridden by characters have some issues with their points at the moment.
    * Split equipment units (1/2 Bows 1/2 Spears, ect) don't check internal validation sizes (minimum number of models) or that porportions are kept correct.

Version 2.18
Released 19 August 2006

The version of the files makes the following improvements:
    * Fixes a few reported bugs.
    * Improves the user interface for the following books: AoA, the main rulebook, Chariot Wars, Hannibal, Alexander the Great, Spartacus, Fall of the West, Shieldwall, and Art of War. Intial equipment now no longer needs to be deselected to allow replacements, and allies now all use the standard Army Builder interface for allies.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I can assure you with almost 100% certainty that previously saved lists will NOT work with this release. Please save lists you want to keep to HTML or print them out before installing this update.

From the looks of everything, no. Assuming you are using OSX though, there always is the possibility that you could get Army Builder to run through a Windows emulator like Wine. Sorry I can't be more helpful here, but I'm not a big Mac jockey.

I noticed that in the EL Cid Reconquista list the Cantador is not listed as a Character option.

Call me computer illiterate if you wish, but having downloaded this file how do I make use of it?

It's pretty simple. Once you have Army Builder v3 installed (demo copy available from wolflair.com) just double-click on the package you downloaded. It will automatically install-- choose the default options. Now choose Warhammer Ancients and you can start using AB to make WAB armies.

Hi Ray - not sure whether you have touched the Hannibal aspect of the files at all? I did post an issue re Balearic Slingers being absent (they are not included in the specific army lists but Allen did indicate that it was a publsihers error and that they should be available for the theatres per the description of the unit - e.g. 2nd Punic Spain/Africa).

I thought I fixed it. I'll check when I get home & fix it if it's not done already.

Version 2.19
Released 27 August 2006

The version of the files makes the following improvements:
    * Fixes a few reported bugs.
    * Partial rewrite of the BTGG files. The Sassanids and Early Byzantines have been rewritten for higher clarity/correctness. Unfortunately, this process require a removal of the original BTGG lists. If you are currently using a list not supported in the new files, use version 2.19b for legacy support until the rewrite is complete

It might be written somewhere else but I didn't see it.

I did this & it seems to have worked:

1 Go to the link in the 1st post in this topic.

2 In the "WAB forum" you are taken to click on the word "download". It is only written in one place. Again at the beginning of the topic.

3 Doing that will open AB III and offer the usual updates dialog boxes.

hands_miranda is very good at doing the files :8) but does not seem to reply to questions on this forum.

Bill.

If it doesn't open up the ABIII system when you download it, save the file to your desktop.

Then open AB, go to Import File then find the file from that dialog box and import it.

More complicated, but thats how my pc insists on doing it
