Lord of the Rings/Historic figures in Kings of War

Postby spikyandy » Thu Jan 07, 2016 3:02 pm

Does anyone use Lord of the Rings figures, or historical figures to build armies for Kings of War?

I've been looking at the Dwarf and Gondor figures from Lord of the Rings, and Perry Agincourt figures to build armies with, am I just mad?

I know at least one person over on the mantic forum used LOTR elves. The scale fits better alongside Mantic stuff than Warhammer figures do (especially the newest stuff) so I say go for it :)

The Kingdoms of Men list was more or less designed with historical ranges in mind too. You should be able to find a unit there to fit pretty much any historical miniature.

The owner of my local store uses Moria Goblins for his goblin force. He won best theme for his army in the tournament we had a couple months back (this was voted by players so no impropriety)

I've seen a lot of Perry and Fireforge miniatures in Kingdoms of Men armies and I have used some Morgul knights to convert into mounted characters for my undead army and they fit very well with the scale of the Mantic undead.

I was thinking about building a small army of English longbowmen and foot knights using the Perry miniatures.

I am going to rebase/update my ECW Royalist army to KoW as a KoM army since we gave up on playing Field of Glory. The latter system was okay, but KoW is much more fun overall. Plus, multibasing means the pike units will overall look better IMO.

Kingdoms of Men

Really, this is the most flexible list in the entire game IMO. A friend is redoing his Gondor army for KoW as well and I want to do another version using Japanese figures from Kensei. It's so flexible it's awesome...

Whoops, misread your post, of course KoM is Kingdom of Men!

I have met another KoW player who has had big issues fighting the Varangur with his KoM, I thought this was a bit weird since surely KoM has plenty of tools to weaken the Varangur before they reach melee? I think KoM is very flexible as a list too and offers fantastic opportunities to use all sorts of historic/Tolkien figures.
I do respect your opinions even when I do not state so, we are all free to disagree and agree here. And I certainly do not assume that my ideas about the rules would be the only proper ones. We all have our own ways for playing these games and that is fine.

I'm starting a Celtic themed KOM army using warlord games Celts. It should be a fun project, one I figure out the right units to use. Not yet sure how I'll fit war machines in, as the Celts didn't really have them, but I'm sure I'll need some.

Bolt Throwers as Ballistas?

I played my first game tonight and really enjoyed it. I might use Perry Agincourt figures to build an army, I'm not sure as I have lots of Fantasy models that i should be using.
