Re: Kings of War Historical

This is a 1500pt Norman list I wrote which I'm planning to build with the Conquest plastic miniatures, and possibly Perry Miniatures for the crossbowmen. Spearmen Horde - 200 Heavy Warriors Regiment (Dismounted Knights) - 135 Bowmen Horde - 165 Crossbowmen Troop - 115 Norman Knights Regiment - 190 ...

Pre-ordered mine a while back, but it hasn't shown up yet. Mainly want it for comparison to Hail Caesar which I prefer at the moment.

Re: 2016 Financial Report

Just wondering how much of the AoS "increase" was actually due to people starting to play 9th Age and Kings of War. I know myself and a few others who for the first time in a long time purchased "AoS" figures, but it wasn't to play that game. As I recall when they did the Bretonn...

Re: What I Love, and What I Miss

I would even have given the new game more of a go if it had been kept in the same setting. I likely would not have. I wanted a battle game rather than yet another skirmish system. Perhaps the GH has made things better and for that I am happy for those who like AoS. I just play too many skirmish sys...

Re: What I Love, and What I Miss

- Needing only two books (rules and army book) to play. Last night I had the Destruction Alliance Book, the General's Handbook, the Age of Sigmar book for the scenario and my laptop for the Ogre Kingdoms Warscrolls and scenery warscrolls. It's out of hand. 40K has become like that with all the data...

Re: Fake interest?

The WFB section here pretty much died with WFB. I rather suspect most of us went to 9th Age, EEFL, or other such 'post-WFB' forums for our discussions... due in no small part TO AoS trolls. That is what I did anyway. I now spend most of my time on the KoW Facebook group. If I were interested in 9th...

Re: SUCCESSOR TO WARHAMMER FANTASY?

Having a lot of fun with KoW nowadays. I have honestly been more motivated to work on my armies than I have since mid-7th edition WFB. While I miss some elements of Warhammer, KoW is excellent in its own right and I am learning to like the streamlined system. Finishing games in 90 min? What's not to...

Re: So it's ok to just continue playing Warhammer 8th Edition

I don't see why not. It's not like the GW Version Police are going to come by your house and confiscate all your old rulebooks :-). Play whatever you like IMO. As long as you have friends who are willing to game with you it's all good.

Re: WFB: Reworked and Rebalanced

While there is much about WFB I miss in KoW, I do find the games are in general much more enjoyable overall. There is almost never an "argument phase" about the rules like what frequently happened during Warhammer games when something wasn't clear. Sure, I liked the customization available...

Re: Tournament comp discussion.

Well yes, we do, and this week we did see something that triggered discussion in our private group. It's just a lot easier to collate/find feedback on the Mantic forum or where TOs have helpfully sent us things like top 3 army lists and feedback from the players. Oh I understand completely. I was j...

Re: Uncharted Empires discussion

Flanking would be fine, but the footprint of the unit is too large to make a good one IMO. A regiment of chariots (150x100mm) is larger than a horde of ogres (120x80mm) and the latter dump out a lot more attacks and are more durable. Sure, they are relatively cheap, but honestly I'd rather have the ...

Re: Tournament comp discussion.

The Rules Committee are tracking the talk coming out of tournaments and will be making adjustments through the Official Tournament Pack, which in theory will be issued annually. Adjustments to flyers are in the works. It would be helpful if you left feedback on the Mantic Forum to influence this. T...

Really, this is the most flexible list in the entire game IMO. A friend is redoing his Gondor army for KoW as well and I want to do another version using Japanese figures from Kensei. It's so flexible it's awesome...

Re: Uncharted Empires discussion

Using UE my Tomb Kings are finally decent on the tabletop. Only complaint, and this seems to be echoed by most players I have spoken to on the KoW FB group, is that chariots in the game are not very good (all chariots, not just the EoD ones). Otherwise it's fun to actually get this army back on the ...

Re: Lord of the Rings/Historic figures in Kings of War

I am going to rebase/update my ECW Royalist army to KoW as a KoM army since we gave up on playing Field of Glory. The latter system was okay, but KoW is much more fun overall. Plus, multibasing means the pike units will overall look better IMO.

Have played a bunch of KoW and several folks in my group who used to play WFB have started playing it as well, but to date have yet to see AoS played anywhere I have been. Anecdotal obviously, but just my experience. Some of the new models look good, but no one I know wants to play the game after wh...

Re: Couple of questions about WFB 5th and 6th

I just re-read the 5th edition rulebook and could not find anything on cover or percentages specified. It's been a *very* long time, but I seem to recall the way we played it was pretty absolute, if cover was not between you and the firer, you didn't get it. That means for like forests and such you ...

I wasn't trashing 9th Age, just saying I prefer Furion's version is all. 9th Age seems fairly well done, just not my cup of tea so to speak.

Re: Kudos to Furion!

Though I am heavy into KoW now, if I do delve back into a revised Warhammer variant it would be Furion's version rather than 9th Age. The former looks pretty well done and is recognizably Warhammer, whereas 9th Age changes far too much (and in directions I don't care for) to be of my liking. JMO tho...

Re: Holy 'licence to print money' Batman - GW do it again.....

I would buy Battlefleet Gothic, Blood Bowl, Epic and Warmaster in a heartbeat even though I have plenty of models for those systems already. Even if they are just boxed games, as long as the scales are the same I can use the new models in my existing forces. Frankly, this is likely the only thing th...

Re: AOS replacing Fantasy

From what I've seen they f'd up more than just their fantasy line. A lot of players I know have slowed down/stopped buying 40K as well because they are afraid of an 'Age of Imperium' style redo of that system as well. I know that's one reason I jumped into the Warpath kickstarter. I still play 40k, ...

Re: Sudden price increases by retailers on WFB minatures

I have not noticed any retailer-driven price increases on WFB stuff lately. Just the expected increase from WFB to AoS by GW. Most of the stores I know of have maintained prices, though a few have some of the less popular items marked down by like 20-50% depending. I drove to six different stores th...

Even if the current wave of warhammer refugees come with pre-existing armies, many will buy odd kits to round out their armies. I am already doing that. Even though I have more GW models than any sane individual should, I just ordered some Brock Riders via my LGS for my Dwarfs and will likely pick ...

Re: US Masters vote for KoW...

The AoS ship is definitely sinking. I hold out some hope that GW will pull a New Coke and go back to a version of 8th. After all the wailing and gnashing of teeth from players such a switch would have to be really, really soon IMO to have any effect. Once the events get going and people begin playi...

Played my first game today. It was easy to learn and a lot of fun. More fun I must say than I have had playing WFB in several years. Sure, there are some things from WFB I will miss, but the gameplay in KoW makes up for that completely IMO. Looking forward to playing more and converting my armies to...
